• Jenny Giraffe Discovers the Library
  A hyperlinked story written and illustrated by Ceclia Casrill Dartez just for NOPL and the kids of New Orleans.
• New Orleans Rebuilt in LEGOs
  A huge LEGO structure that shows a post-Katrina re-built New Orleans, as kids from across the country envisioned it. You can see the real thing in the Children's Room!

• Children's Book Week Bookmark Contest
  Each year, during Children's Book Week, NOPL sponsors a bookmark contest that invites kids from pre-K through High School to create a black & white bookmark. Hundreds of kids from schools and home schools enter their artwork, and, with difficulty, the judges choose six as winners -- three from the 11 and under age group and three from ages 12-18. The winning designs are printed as "real" bookmarks and distributed to NOPL patrons.
• Early Literacy Pathways: Field Trips to the Louisiana Children's Museum
  Bring your class to the LCM for a free fully-facilitated Museum experience that motivates students and reinforces early language and literacy skills, such as phonemic awareness, contextual learning, and listening skills. Sign up students for library cards and promote reading all year round.
• Feed the Bead Gator
  From January to May of each year, we encourage kids and families to recycle the beads they’ve caught at Mardi Gras and other parades by bringing them to the Main Library Children’s Room and “Feeding the Bead Gator.” The Bead Gator, made from cardboard, paper mache, and wood, holds the beads until they are picked up by ARC-New Orleans, who have a work program in which mentally handicapped workers recycle the beads.
• Field Trips to the Main Library
  Field trips are designed to serve groups of 15-60 students, plus adult chaperones.
• Jumpstart's Read for the Record
  Jumpstart's Read for the Record is a national campaign that mobilizes adults and children to close the early education achievment gap by setting a reading world record. We read the same book. The same day. With children all over the globe.
• Louisiana Young Readers' Choice
  Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice is a reading enrichment program of the Louisiana Center for the Book in the State Library of Louisiana The purpose of the program is to foster a love of reading in the children of Louisiana by motivating them to participate in the selection and recognition of outstanding books.
• Read Across America
  The National Education Association's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2 (or sometimes March 1), the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.
• Saturdays in the Children's Room
  Join us for Baby Jam (for ages 0 to 3 years) at 10:30 and Book-Based Craft (ages 5-11) at 11:30 every Saturday.
